Bye bye Mary Jane

Say goodbye to the beloved female counterpart to Peter Parker a.k.a. Spiderman™, she will not appear in the new Spiderman movie that is almost on its way here (here being July 3rd, 2012). His love interest now in the reboot of the Spiderman movies will be his previous love before Mary came into the picture will be Gwen Stevens. This comes as a shocker to me because my whole life I have gotten to know Mary Jane as being Spiderman's perfect damsel in distress.

"The Peter-MJ-Gwen triangle in Raimi’s third Spider-Man was nothing special, but it was far from the most problematic aspect of that less than well-regarded threequel. Gwen was Peter’s first love in the original comic books so it makes sense that she should be featured in the first of a new collection of webslinger movies – not to mention that her presence will help further distinguish the reboot from Raimi’s original Spider-Man."

I mean don't get me wrong here making a reboot is all cool and I have nothing against that to be honest. But apart from the avid comic book enthusiast not many people would know about Gwen being Peter's first and true love. This is more of a shocker than Martin Sheen playing Uncle Ben (O.o).
