The truth behind the overuse of the word "Hater"

Read below for the truth

The word "hater" is used too often by people who are incapable of articulating themselves well enough to establish a respectable argument for their dislike of another person's views/opinion.  Not liking what you like does not make me hater.  I actually hate the word hater(no pun intended) because people use it as a shield to dismiss intelligent and fair criticism, observation, and social commentary. Don't like what someone has to say?  Just call them a hater.  It might seem silly, but this is a perfectly acceptable response to someone's opinion in some (ignorant) circles.

Here is an example:

Me:  Drake isn't a very good MC.  While I enjoy some of his songs and admit he is capable of some decent lyricism every now and then, I feel he fails in comparison to the upper caliber MCs and is mostly just a product of fantastic production and catchy hooks.  His subject material is repetitive and about as deep as a 2 year old's vocabulary bank.  He lacks any sort of wordplay or lyrical technique that would wow anyone who isn't ignorant to what a good emcee is supposed to sound like.  He has the exact same flow on the majority of his songs and often struggles to carry a song by himself without the assistance of a guest feature from one of his equally mediocre friends.  Overall he is a weak MC and I much prefer someone like Blu.

Response:  MAN YOU A HATER!  EVERYBODY KNOWS DRAKE IS GREAT.  DRAKE GETS WAY MORE BITCHES THAN BLU AND WAY MORE PEOPLE LIKE HIM.  HOW COME BLU NOT ON THE RADIO? WHERE'S HIS ALBUM AT?  DRAKE WENT PLATINUM AND IS KILLING THE GAME RIGHT NOW.  IF YOU DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE HIS GREATNESS YOU ARE A HATER. HAVE YOU HEARD "FANCY" ON THE RADIO NIGGA? THAT SHIT BANGS SO HARD IN THE CLUB NIGGA.  DRAKE IS THAT DUDE.

Sad, huh?

Now, I do acknowledge that there is such a thing as a hater.  If someone goes out of their way to be antagonistic towards someone without any basis for it outside of not liking the person because of their success or any other reason irrelevant to what makes them a person of notice, that's a hater.

"Screw Drake he sucks" coming from someone who's never heard his music and simply dislikes him because he is young, successful and has money IS A HATER.  There's no other way around it.

"Drake is a weak MC.  I've heard his mixtapes and I think the dude sucks to be honest.  No subject material, weak bars, and his fake ass southern accent is annoying." = someone with an opinion.  Not a hater.

This is a public service announcement from All City Bosses.

PS: I really do think Drake sucks.
